Hints

N.B. The information below will help us to provide you with the best possible quotation. Please print out this list, for future reference. Please remember:

To tell us when the movement is scheduled to take place - if this coincides with our traffic pattern, it could result in a significant saving. The same also applies to shipping projects, knowing that the shipment date is likely to coincide with a particular, vessel departure.

To allow sufficient time for the authorities to issue the abnormal load permits (if required). Some countries are faster than others, it varies enormously from country to country.

Does the cargo have to be loaded or delivered on a specific date? This could significantly affect our choice of route and equipment. Sometimes the impossible can be achieved, albeit at a cost penalty. Otherwise we will assume that the loading date is flexible and can be scheduled to correspond with equipment availability.

Equally, is the transit time critical? Again, this may influence the choice of route, particularly in the case of shipping projects.

To get the dimensions and weight precisely correct - an abnormal load permit in Europe is a licence to move, at the dimensions declared, on the vehicle specified, along the route shown. If there is a subsequent variation, this could be costly and, in all probability, cause delay.

That there is a world of difference between moving second hand machinery and an aircraft fuselage. Whilst we take special care of both, the latter needs greater care and attention. It helps to know the nature of the cargo, even in the most general terms.

Whilst our main strength is in the oversize market, if you have standard cargo accompanying the main pieces, tell us about it. Even though the regulations on indivisibility are complex, it may be that we can co-load minor items, reducing the overall number of trailers and containers required, with a corresponding reduction in the total cost.

It helps considerably if you can provide technical drawings or photographs of the cargo. Equally, if required, we would be pleased to carry out a cargo inspection or site inspection.

If you are having difficulty arranging loading and/or discharging, we would be pleased to arrange the necessary craneage, labour etc. Likewise, if you want supervision at any point, you only have to ask. Turnkey projects, where we arrange everything throughout, are one of our specialities. This includes dismantling, packing, preparation of documentation etc.

In common with industry practice, only limited liability, CMR insurance is provided for. If you require all risks insurance, we would be pleased to obtain a quotation from our broker (Peter Lole & Co.).

If some of the detailed information is not available, we would be pleased to provide an initial estimate/budget quotation. Once further information does become available, it will then enable us to submit our more formal, detailed, contract offer.

Sometimes, even we may not know if a movement is physically possible - perhaps due to bridge strengths or heights. If so, we may have to carry out a feasibility study/route survey. In this instance, we might ask for a contribution towards the cost, to be refunded if/when the movement goes ahead.

Equally, it may be that the project is at a very early stage and you are trying to discover the pitfalls, time frame and probable cost, well in advance. This is where our Consultancy Division would be pleased to help.

All discussions are conducted on a strictly confidential and neutral basis. Every quotation, proposal and method statement is provided to the exclusive benefit of the customer in question.

When you receive your quotation, please study it. Make certain that it meets your requirement. There may be some exclusions – some are unavoidable. We will give you a call, just to make absolutely certain you have all you need.

As you will appreciate, our quotation is only as good as the information provided. If, for some reason, you don’t find our offer acceptable, let us know - we are always happy to take a second, third or even fourth look!
