To tell us when the movement is scheduled to
take place – if this coincides with our traffic pattern, it could
result in a significant saving. On one movement last year, a
client had six import loads from Spain which happened to correspond
with an export project from the UK, resulting in a 18% saving.
To allow sufficient time for the authorities
to issue the permits – bear in mind that a Category Two permit
in France or Italy can take four weeks to process, the equivalent
in Spain as long as six weeks. The length of time necessary to
arrange the documentation is a product of the size of the cargo,
in relation to the final destination and the route adopted. Some
countries are faster than others, some much slower, it varies
enormously.
It helps to know if the cargo is urgent or has to be delivered
by a certain date. This could significantly affect our choice
of route and equipment. Sometimes the impossible can be achieved,
albeit at a cost penalty. Equally, if the cargo has to be loaded
on a specific date, we need to know. Otherwise
we will assume that the loading date is flexible and can take
place to suit equipment availability ie the most economic option..
To get the dimensions and weight precisely
correct – an abnormal load permit in Europe is a licence to move,
at the dimensions declared, on the vehicle specified, along the
route shown. If there is a subsequent variation, this could be
costly and, in all probability, cause delay.
That there is a world of difference between moving second hand
machinery and an aircraft fuselage. Whilst we take special care
of both, the latter needs greater care and attention. It helps
to know the nature of the cargo,
even in the most general terms.
Whilst our main strength is in the oversize market, if you have
standard cargo accompanying the main pieces, tell us about them.
Even though the regulations on indivisibility are complex, it
may be that we can co-load minor items, reducing
the overall number of trailers required, with a corresponding
reduction in the total cost.
If you are having difficulty arranging loading and/or discharging,
we would be pleased to help. Turnkey projects,
where we make all the arrangements, are one of our specialities.
Likewise dismantling, packing etc.
In common with industry practice, all risks insurance is
not included. If you would like us to provide a quotation, please
let us have the value of the cargo and all other relevant information
(as required by underwriters).
It may well be that some of the information is missing at present.
If so, we would be pleased to provide an initial estimate/budget.
Once everything is to hand, we will then calculate on a more
precise basis – in most cases this results in an improvement
on the original figure.
Sometimes even we may not know if a movement is physically possible
– perhaps due to bridge strengths or heights. If so, we may have
to carry out a feasibility study/route survey.
In this instance, we might ask for a contribution towards the
cost, to be refunded when the movement goes ahead.
Equally, it may be that the project is at a very early stage
and you are trying to discover the pitfalls, time frame and probable
cost, well in advance. This is where our consultancy
division comes into play – they would be pleased to
help.
All discussions are conducted on a strictly confidential
and neutral basis. Every quotation, proposal and method
statement is exclusive to the recipient and will not be discussed
with a third party, without approval.
Although we are best known in the overland market, we also have
strong connections in sea freight, river barges, rail etc. Our
task is to come up with the optimum solution,
in relation to your requirement, as we best understand it.
It goes without saying that our quotation is only as good as
the information provided. If, for some reason, you don’t find
our offer competitive, let us know – we are always happy to take
a second look!
