STG plays its part
Despite the fact that the climate change conference in Copenhagen achieved very little, at stg we believe that every one can play their part today in helping to reduce carbon emissions. Throughout the past year, we have strengthened our ties with barge operators throughout Europe, taking maximum advantage of the vast canal & river system. A case in point is the M/V Fast Catrien, seen negotiating one of the final locks on the river Seine, on route from Immingham to Cergy Pontoise, in the heart of Paris.
This week sees an even more ambitious exercise, a direct barge movement from Rotterdam through to Gonyu, Hungary. Whilst we haven't calculated the reduction in carbon emissions, the saving in the number of trucks and kilometres travelled on European roads is enormous. Innovation is the key - constantly looking for more effective solutions and routes. |
